With Untitled, Gantert examines elements of cultural acceleration by sifting through the river of detached signs and data that permeate our daily existence. By plucking out bits of transitory dross and personal ephemera, he suspends their fleeting existence and repositions their timelines as objects and experiences to consider.
While the work alludes to narratives of degradation and despondency -- perhaps in attitude more so than form -- it clings on to a stolid optimism, as if these preserved or re-performed pieces were some after effect of hope.
